My totally secret diary on stage in America by Dee Shulman
Polly, aged 11 nearly 12, flies to San Francisco with her actress mum Arabella Diamonte. Things don't go as calmly as Polly expected. Two child actors called Aurora and Ophelia are spoilt people who tease her about everything. The only thing that keeps her sane is WILL. He is a child actor, just not as bad as the girls. Actually Polly finds herself really liking him. When the cast list goes up and they find out that Aurora got the part, the atmosphere goes cold. BUT during a beach party, Aurora trips and falls leading to a broken nose and a sprained ankle. Ophelia gets her part. BUT because of screaming and bawling so much, she loses her voice the next day. Next thing you know Polly is crouched behind a cardboard tree waiting for her que.
